Fashionably speaking, the SAG awards are the funnest of all awards-season celebrations—a night when the stars relax, unwind and break out some of their more unusual red-carpet looks to celebrate each other’s achievements over the past year. And now that the awards have been handed out, it’s time for us to give out our own honors to the actresses who best dressed for the occasion. Whose bright, bold and brave style choices caught our fancy last night?
Bright fuchsia frocks have made for many a bridesmaid nightmare, but Dianna Agron was seriously pretty in pink when she wore this Carolina Herrera dress to the awards last night; her sweet braided up-do and light blue jewelry offset the bold color beautifully. And she wasn’t the only one sporting a gown in an eye-catching candy color; Emily Blunt showed up in this one-shoulder Oscar de la Renta number with an up-to-there slit and in a hue that reminds us of lemon-lime Jolly Ranchers…in a good way.
Not every actress showed up in a carpet-sweeping gown; some of them looked perfectly great sporting slightly higher hemlines. Jennifer Carpenter showed off her long, lean figure in a scarlet Paule Ka dress, with an ornate all-over pattern and knee-length hem. And Emma Stone, always one of our favorite fashionistas, looks to be taking a cue from her wardrobe in “The Gangster Squad” with a black strapless tea-length dress by Alexander McQueen. Lots of taffeta and a big swingy skirt make this look firmly ’50s-inspired, and we love how she matched her shoes to the feathered accents on the bodice.
And finally, a pair of ladies whose risky (or, as the French like to say, risqué) style choices made for attention-grabbing ensembles: Zoe Saldana was atypically covered up in a Givenchy gown with a blousy top half, and the high neck and jeweled accents were a fabulous standout against the sea of basic black and teensy straps. And Shailene Woodley went bold with a L’Wren Scott gown in a big, splashy floral pattern; the unusual color scheme made for an eye-catching look on the red carpet, but its subtle shimmer was even more divine when she took the stage alongside George Clooney to present their film “The Descendants.”
