“Safe & Sound” by Taylor Swift, featuring The Civil Wars, is a breathy, ethereal ditty heavy on the songstress’ signature country twang. With lyrics like, “Just close your eyes/ The sun is going down/ You’ll be all right/ No one can hurt you now,” the ballad is an exercise in hopeful melancholy. (Sound like a certain dystopian YA series?)
Piggy-backing on the track’s debut, Lionsgate and Universal later announced that the album would also feature songs from The Decemberists and Arcade Fire’s husband-wife duo Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. Of course, that’s in addition to star Jennifer Lawrence herself, who MTV News confirmed back in August would contribute vocals on “Rue’s Lullaby.”
Burnett’s pick of collaborators couldn’t be better, but that didn’t stop us from contemplating which other artists we’d love to see reaped for the soundtrack. Personally, I’d love to hear some sweeping stylings from Florence + the Machine. The Brit has a truly epic pair of pipes—all the better for a film bound for epic-ness…
But that’s just me. What do you think, Crushers? Which other artists or groups would you like to hear on “The Hunger Games” soundtrack? Are you happy with the picks so far? Sound off in the comments and on Twitter!
