Without the perfect cast to carry it off, this movie’s combination of haute couture and poop jokes could’ve just been…well, crappy. (Hurrrr.) But between Kristen Wiig’s leading ladyness, Rose Byrne’s perfect bitchface and Melissa McCarthy’s film-carrying performance as the groom’s foul-mouthed sister, it ended up being the best comedy of the year…or, possibly, of ALL TIME.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”
This film franchise wouldn’t have been the same without its wand-waving, spell-slinging collection of crazy kids, or the slew of English character actors who took their turns as Hogwarts staff members. Plus, there’s something to be said for the fact that, after 10 years of Harry Potter films, we’ve had the rare experience of actually watching the entire cast go through puberty.
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1”
You could vote for this one purely based on the power of the Rob-Kristen-Taylor trifecta—but let’s be real, “The Twilight Saga” wouldn’t be half as fab without the shirtless wolfpack, red-eyed Volturi and hilariously clueless contingent of Forks residents who are all, “Vampires? What vampires?” (even as one of their favorite young denizens walks down the aisle with one.)
A trio of delicious dudes (Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day) and their three slave-driving devil bosses (Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell) made for one excellent ensemble cast. Add Jamie Foxx as a “murder consultant,” and you’ve got comedic gold.
The great chemistry between a cast that includes Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain is what made “The Help” a poignant, funny drama instead of a flat sapfest. Could it deserve your vote for best cast?
