Can you imagine a "Twilight Saga" without the trademark smolderface of "Robert Pattinson? Yeah, neither can we—at least, not without getting a little hysterical. The Patz is Edward, and that's all there is to it. But when MTV News' Josh Horowitz sat down with Rob for an interview in the final stretch before the premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," he went ahead and asked the unthinkable question: Where would the actor be if he hadn't been cast in "Twilight"?
Rob's response: "Probably dead."
GAH! Don't say that! We're getting hysterical again!
Good thing it turns out he's just kidding.
"No, no," he backpedaled. "I don't know. I have no idea."
But, he added, it's not like he hasn't thought about the twist of fate that made him everyone's favorite sparkly vampire boyfriend, and made "Pattinson" a household name: "I think a lot of actors think about that, all the time. You have to confront your insecurities kind of a lot, and I have plenty—PLENTY!—of insecurities."
And, says Rob, becoming uberfamous doesn't necessarily kill those nasty self-doubting thought goblins.
"Before, you can kind of bulls--t yourself all the time," he explained. "If no one cares about you, you can think, 'I'm the greatest person in the world!' You can just be completely delusional."
Whereas now, he actually is the greatest person in the world! Or at least, a very, very famous one! But don't worry; Rob hasn't bought into the hype about his own awesomeness.
"I'm kind of getting sick of the sight of myself," he said. "And I'm also getting older as well."
HEY NOW. Don't talk about Robert Pattinson that way, Robert Pattinson!
Do you find Rob's humility refreshing?
