Hot off the, er, presses? It's our first look at Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer as R and Julie in Summit Entertainment's big-screen adaptation of "Warm Bodies"! The pic was snapped by the eagle-eyed folks at ShockTilYouDrop.com at the American Film Market, so it's not necessarily an "official" first look, but one we can get excited about nonetheless.
Just look at how subtly smoldery they are! I have to admit that I was a little skeptical when Nicholas was cast as sweet, sensitive, sentient zombie R—this was before I saw him absolutely kill it as Hank McCoy in "X-Men: First Class," mind you—but now that I know he has the acting chops to pull off the nuances of R's empathetic, likable character, I am fully on board. And this photo, while it doesn't indicate much of what we'll see in the final product, the darker, stylized look of the shot has me feeling very optimistic about things.
Not to mention what director Jonathan Levine told us about his plans for the adaptation awhile back.
"When I read it I thought, 'Whoa, this is crazy and groundbreaking and cool,'" he recalled. "I can't wait, I'm so thrilled. It's going to be totally different from anything I've ever done. It's going to be kind of a visual feast.
"It will be very image-istic," he said. "Almost like a 'Diving Bell and the Butterfly' kind of opening... a zombie 'Diving Bell and the Butterfly,' and then it will transition into a more visceral thing, and we'll be more in the moment. That opening [in the book] is such a beautiful tone poem, I'm going to try and find my inner [Julian] Schnabel or [Terrence] Malick. I'm not as talented as those guys, but I'll do my best to imitate them."
"Warm Bodies" opens on August 10, 2012, and also features Rob Corddry, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco and Cory Hardrict.
