Hilary Duff is a very busy mom-to-be! In between getting ready for a baby, Hilary has somehow found the time to write the follow-up to her best selling debut novel, “Elixir.” The second book in her trilogy, “Devoted,” hits book stores tomorrow, and the Duffster promises just as much adventure, mystery and drama.
“’Devoted’ picks up basically where ’Elixir’ left off, and Clea has a lot of big questions to answer and decisions to make,” Hilary told us. “Clearly Sage and her got separated [he was kidnapped in ’Elixir’], and it didn’t end ideally for them, so she’s having a hard time.”
And in “Devoted,” it seems like Clea’s dreams are leading her in the wrong direction. “Her dreams, which are what normally guide her through and kind of keep her connected to [Sage] are being taken over by this other group that is now going to be a big part of the story, and they are leading her astray, and they are kind of like showing him stray with like this other women. It’s tough for her, and she doesn’t know what to believe, and she’s left lost, but she’s a strong girl and she’s a fighter.”
Will Clea turn to her friend Ben for help? It doesn’t seem like she has much of a choice.
“She’s going to team up with Ben again, who’s her best friend. They’ve ended on bad terms, so now she has to be the bigger person and go back to him and beg him to help her even though she’s really upset with him, and then the story goes on from there. They go on to have a really big adventure, and there’s a huge fight scene at the end of the book that was a lot of fun to write and a lot of new characters. It’s fun.”
Now that the second book will be hitting bookstore shelves, Hilary is already thinking up some ideas for the final book in this trilogy.
“There’s going to be one more,” she revealed. “I don’t think it will be as long. It will be a wrap up, kind of where they are now and what exactly happened to the Elixir, whose hands it’s in, what ends up happening with Sage. I’m gonna start writing soon. It will probably be very emotional for my state. I think it will come out a little sooner because it will be easier and quicker.”
