'The Lying Game' Recap: 'Over Exposure'

The Lying GameGood thing Ethan taught two-left-feet Emma how to dance a few episodes back because she's going to need those moves now that it's Homecoming! In a set-up reminiscent of every good (and bad) teen movie, Emma fished around to see if Ethan planned on attending, only to get an unequivocal "no way." But not having had a traditional high school experience, Emma was still dying to go. And, as it turned out, she kinda had to since Sutton had been eyeing a run for Queen since junior high.

Sis Laurel, however, wasn't going to be spinning and twirling at a dance anytime soon, as part of her punishment for "stealing" Sutton's laptop. Out of solidarity, Emma decided she would skip Homecoming too and have a Girls Night with sis. Laurel was surprised but seemed pleased. Sutton's friends, however, didn't take the news as well. "We've been planning your campaign since eighth grade," protested Char. "I'm the Pippa to your Kate."

Homecoming was the furthest thing from Sutton's mind, though. In L.A., the sexual chemistry between her and Thayer was reaching uncomfortable levels. With Sutton strutting around in nothing but a towel, Thayer helped himself to several long, lecherous looks, which culminated in a kiss, much to Sutton's supposed chagrin. That's what you get for prancing around nearly naked, girl!

Unaware of the drama in SoCal, Emma began to wonder if dropping out of the Homecoming Queen race was a bad idea, but she couldn't reach Sutton online to hash it out. Peer pressure prevailed, and Emma jumped back into the race, also convincing her parents to let Laurel go in the process. Everyone wins! Well, not quite. When Emma asked Ethan to be her date, he said he just couldn't; Sutton wouldn't want their relationship public.

But realizing how ridiculous that sounded, Ethan brought the idea up to Sutton once she finally logged onto video chat, asking when she had planned on spilling their status to the school. Short answer: never. Yeah, that hurt.

Emma's last-minute campaigning paid off, and she was crowned Homecoming Queen with Laurel's newbie BF Justin taking the crown for King. But as they began their royal dance, Ethan showed up (looking totally fine in a tux) and cut in. "It's not about Sutton," he told Emma. "I came here for you." And then:

Which pretty much caused the entire gym to go into a tizzy. Not surprisingly, it didn't take long for the evidence to turn up online, where Sutton got a good glimpse of Ethan and Emma's steamy dance floor make out. Bad for Sutton, but good for Thayer because the pics sent Sutton right into his arms.

High on her night with Ethan, Emma returned home to find Ted hiding a page from the family photo album in a stack of magazines. She grabbed the pages, finally putting two and two together: The picture was of Sutton and Emma's birth mom...with Ted and Alec. They knew her all along!

And she's not dead. In between bouts of suspicion regarding Mads and dance teacher Eduardo, Alec found the time to call up the facility where Annie is housed, and told them not to let any visitors see her. Especially Sutton Mercer. What will happen when she and Thayer inevitably track Annie down? We'll have to tune in to find out!
