Of course, all this man-tastic masculinity might be a challenge for fans of “The Twilight Saga,” who still identify Taylor first and foremost as a teenage heartthrob… specifically, a teenage heartthrob with boyish good looks and not so much as a single chest hair. But we think you’ll get used to it! Especially since, despite being totally manned out for his photo shoot, he is still talking about his role in everyone’s favorite vampire romance.
Opening up about what it was like to be so immersed in the “Twilight” world, he tells VMAN that it was his fellow cast members who made it all okay.
“It was really helpful that all of us were going through the same thing at the same time,” he said. “I think if we didn’t have that sort of relationship it would have been tough. It would have felt pretty lonely. Because when you’re filming for these ’Breaking Dawn’ movies—we were filming for seven months—and if you’re there alone the whole time, even with the cast members, like on a day off, or on weekends, you’d go nuts.”
But Taylor also credits the movies with giving him a chance to grow up, get out there and see the world. Especially since, before he became Jacob Black, he’d kind of never been anywhere!
“I hadn’t explored much besides Michigan and California,” he said of his pre-“Twilight” years. Obviously, that’s changed. But he also points out that promoting the films doesn’t leave much time for local exploring: “When I’m traveling the world promoting the films, I say I am on vacation, but its not really true, I guess—because when I go to a beautiful city I spend the whole time in a hotel room and then I’m back on a plane to the next place.”
In fact, we get the sense that Taylor’s still a little bewildered by the whole celebrity experience: the jetsetting, the whirlwind schedule, the crazed fans. But when it comes to the way fans react to him (we’re looking at you, Team Jacob), he’s quick to deflect any responsibility.
“It’s definitely these characters we’re playing. They are in love with Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black. I mean, they feel like they know them. We’re just lucky enough to be playing them. But I definitely think it’s the characters.”
Ah, yes, of course. It’s the characters, you guys! It has nothing to do with the hotness, or the abs.
…Except that it has EVERYTHING to do with the abs.
But think whatever you like, TayTay. Just keep that torso unclothed, okay? Okay.
Do you feel the same way about Taylor Lautner: Man as you do about Taylor Lautner: Teen Hottie?
