‘Divergent’ Adaptation Scores A Writer: Let’s Celebrate By Casting Tris!

Veronica Roth’s dystopian Chicago is one step closer to fruition! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment has tapped Evan Daugherty to pen the screenplay for the film adaptation of Veronica’s thriller “Divergent.” Evan’s been making a name for himself in the industry of late, with writing credits on Kristen Stewart’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Shrapnel.”

Though “Divergent” debuted just last month, built-in buzz helped propel the novel into best-seller territory and secure a place in the hearts of YA fans. The story is set in a future world in which the population is divided into five factions, each embodying a different virtue (honesty, bravery, selflessness, peacefulness and intelligence). At 16 years old, each citizen undergoes an aptitude test and must then select which faction they will join. For Beatrice Prior, the decision thrusts her into an unfamiliar world of action and adventure. And an unexpected romance.

As production on the enthralling tale ramps up, we figured it was high time to take a seat on the Hollywood Crush Casting Couch to pick a few good girls for the role of Tris. Our blond heroine characterizes herself this way: “I see a narrow face, wide round eyes, and a long, thin nose—I still look like a little girl though sometime in the last few months I turned sixteen.” Keeping those details in mind, here are our picks for one of the best YA protagonists around:

1. Elle Fanning
The 13-year-old, up-and-coming Fanning may be a touch young for this role—numerically speaking—but after seeing her thrilling turn in “Super 8,” we know Elle has the acting chops to pull off this multi-layered part. Plus, you have to admit her sophisticated style and statuesque frame make her look older than her 13 years.

2. Skyler Samuels
In the upcoming ABC Family series “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” 17-year-old Skyler stars as a girl with special powers who’s being hunted by an assassin. Though we have yet to watch the first episode, it sounds like the role will give Skyler plenty of opportunities to hone Dauntless action muscles.

3. Emma Roberts
Okay, okay. This is like the umpteenth hypothetical role we’ve cast Emma in, but her girl-next-door looks just make her oh-so versatile! An admitted YA fanatic, it seems only fair Emma land a film adaptation before she turns 30.
