'Mortal Instruments' Experts Weigh In On Jamie Campbell Bower As Jace

It's become an irrefutable truth of late that if you're casting the film adaptation of a beloved YA novel, you're going to be on the receiving end of plenty of strongly worded Tweets. And so it is that "The Mortal Instruments" follows in the footsteps of "The Hunger Games" and "Twilight" before it, marching forwarded with a new leading man and more than a few agitated fans. Following yesterday's news that Jamie Campbell Bower would wear the runes as Shadowhunter Jace Wayland in "City of Bones," online reactions were swift, vocal and divided.

Author Cassandra Clare allayed any fears we may have had by heaping mounds of praise upon Jamie's shoulders during our interview with her this morning (a mean feat considering what steadfast Alex Pettyfer supporters we were!), so we're pretty confident Jamie is going to shine (and brood) in this new role of his. But we wanted to check the temperature of the rest of "TMI" fandom, starting with some of the experts.

"I admit, I was a little hesitant at first," Alyssa Barbieri of "The Mortal Instruments" Source said. "I was a little surprised when the casting came about, but after looking at some of the stuff he's been in and hearing Cassie say that his audition was unf-ingbelievable, I think that's a good sign, and we have to trust that the casting directors made a good call here."

"The Mortal Instruments" Examiner Natalie C. Markey, on the other hand, couldn't have been more enthused about the casting. "I was really excited, and I think fans kind of got a preview of the idea of him being Jace in the days leading up, the week leading up, as there was some speculation," she explained. "I think he has a lot of experience. Not only do I think he looks the part, but he has the acting chops to pull it off. Plus, he's had experience working with big-name actors in major franchises, so we know he can pull off a lot of pressure."

Yet, some fans will have to get used to envisioning Jace not as Alex Pettyfer, Max Irons or Ed Speleers, but as Jamie Campbell Bower.

"There's been a lot of, 'That's not who people pictured as Jace,'" said Katie Bartow of Mundie Moms. "So there are a lot of people who are anxious to see what Jamie's going to bring to the big screen."

Alyssa added that, ultimately, fans just need to give Jamie a chance to prove himself. "The fans need to just really trust in the casting and the studio that they made the right choice," she said. "Don't freak out. We haven't seen the audition tapes. Just wait until you get your first glance at him to start judging him. But give him a chance. Everyone deserves a chance."

Wise words, Alyssa.
