Jennifer Lawrence Details Rigorous 'Hunger Games' Training: Combat, Archery And Vaulting!

When Jennifer Lawrence came 'round for a chat at the MTV News studios, it was technically for the purposes of promoting her role in the soon-to-be-released "X-Men: First Class." But once we had her on our couch, there was no way we weren't going to mention that other movie in which she was recently cast. You know the one we're talking about. YOU KNOW.

"Oh yeah, that little guy," Jennifer said with a laugh, as Josh Horowitz held up the Entertainment Weekly emblazoned with the first-ever photos of the actress in her "Hunger Games" regalia.

Yeah, THAT ONE.

At this point, there's no question that Jennifer has what it takes to play Katniss Everdeen on the big screen. And even before her brunette dye job and newly tanned skin put the grumbling naysayers to rest, we'd already heard from multiple sources that her audition blew every other would-be Katniss out of the water. But we hadn't heard from the girl herself about her mindset heading in to the audition—a process that was probably made easier by the fact that Jennifer is a fan of "The Hunger Games" herself.

"I was a fan of the books before I really knew about the movies," she explained. "And I met with Gary Ross, and we had a very long, nice meeting before the audition."

A meeting where, presumably, the two chatted about the requirements of the role—which we've heard include some serious physical challenges.

"It's lots of training," Jennifer admitted, "but the training's actually really fun. I've done archery for about six weeks, and rock climbing, tree climbing—and combat, running and vaulting. But also yoga and things like that, to stay catlike!"

We can't wait to see her in action! And also, MEOW.

Are you surprised by how much training Jennifer's put into the role?
