This just in: “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric may appear on “Glee“! Deadline is reporting that the former “Today Show” co-host (who apparently fancies herself to be quite the gleek) is in talks to appear in the highly anticipated post-Superbowl episode (which will feature the buzzed-about “Thriller” number.) While Fox hasn’t given an official word on whether Katie (who would allegedly be sharing screen time with Jane Lynch) will actually appear on the show, we officially love this idea.
Katie’s rumored appearance got us thinking about more television hosts we’d love to see on the other side of the spectrum: as a guest! Keep reading after the jump for our list of five and why we think they’d make a great addition to McKinley High School!
Ricki Lake left quite a mark on the daytime television world with her now-departed “Ricki Lake Show” (she even had her own trademark audience chant: “Go, Ricki! Go, Ricki!”), but she got her start in movie musicals. Ricki made it big when she starred in the original version of “Hairspray” as the iconic Tracy Turnblad. How perfect would it be to have her join in for a few of the updated musical’s tunes? Better yet, have a duet with “The Talk” co-host Marisa Jaret Winokur, who starred in the original Broadway cast as Tracy!
Who better to settle disputes and couple woes at McKinley High School than Jerry Springer? On second thought, let’s just leave that to Ms. Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) as the other option could lead to some serious bloodshed. Instead, let’s have Jerry, who appeared on “Dancing With the Stars” go toe to toe with Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.)!
She’s been known to sing and dance on “Live! With Regis and Kelly” (hello, she even did her own amazing rendition of “Thriller”!), plus Kelly Ripa has all the makings of “Glee” stunt casting. Perky? Check. Talented? Check. Blond? Check. Possible adorable love interest for Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison)? Check. Hey, it worked for Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristin Chenoweth!
Whoopi Goldberg may spend her days with the ladies of “The View,” but she is no stranger to theatrics. She’s not only appeared on Broadway, but she’s also sang and danced on-screen in movies, including both the beloved “Sister Act” flicks! “I Will Follow Him,” revival with Mercedes (Amber Riley) anyone?
C’mon, how could we not BEG for Oprah Winfrey to appear on “Glee”? While we’d love for her to do just about anything on the show, we think she’d make for a wonderful MC/host of the upcoming sectionals. Just imagine her introducing the gang in her sing-songy manner, “Ladies and gentleman, New Direeeeeectiiiiiiiiiiions!”
