Disney’s latest venture, due out April 2011, follows nine high school seniors, who are all trying to make the best of their one big night. Producers have cast a whole new set of mostly unknown actors to play the roles of the classic high school characters (i.e. archetypes) we've seen in so many movies over the years, like "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club."
There's Nova, a perky, preppy blond, played by Aimee Teegarden, who sets her eyes on the high school's hunky bad boy to be her prom date. (But only after the guy she had in mind asks her to CARPOOL…poor girl.) We also meet Danielle Campbell who plays the high-strung perfectionist
Nelly Yuki Simone, and is dating (a.k.a controlling) Lloyd, played by the adorable Nicholas Braun from "10 Things I Hate About You."
Based on the trailer, we can be sure that this comedy will not be without the drama we love to see when watching a movie about someone else’s high school experience. It's all there: picking a date, finding a dress (at least for the ladies) and the stress of whether said date likes you or like likes you.
From what we've seen, it looks like Disney's done a great job making "Prom" a movie for all ages. It's an innovative spin on a story with a high possibility of being extremely cheesy. Plus, even though the trailer was just slightly longer than a minute, I’m already pulling for Nova and the super-cute bad boy! We hope the movie is as good as the trailer, because from what we’ve seen, we're totally excited. Plus…it’s MUCH more realistic than Gaby and Troy’s little fairytale!
What did you think of the "Prom" trailer? Will you be seeing it when it hits theaters next year?
