The happily-ever-after announcement that Prince William and Kate Middleton will tie the knot in 2011 after eight years of dating, got us thinking about some of the grandest royal weddings to walk down the aisle of cinematic history. They're bold, beautiful (and sometimes gaudy), and we can't help but love them 'til death do us part. We bet you'll say "I do" to our list of favorite royal nuptials on film, too, but be sure to chime in with your own in the comments section as well!
Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman had a very, very formal ceremony when they married in Sofia Coppola's visually stunning, "Marie Antoinette." We hope that Kate and William have less of a hard time adjusting to married life than Marie and Louis did in the flick!
In "The Princess Bride," beautiful Buttercup was pining for the dashing and hot Westley when she walked down the aisle to marry the hideous-on-the-inside Prince Humperdinck. Needless to say, Westley whisked her away. The wedding may have been lovely, but we just hope Kate doesn’t have a Westley in her past.
We have to say that Drew Barrymore's Danielle hit the jackpot when the super-hot French prince, Henry, fell in love with her in "EverAfter." Her wedding was near perfection, including revenge against her terrible stepmother and stepsister. Not a bad wedding present.
Disney has always provided some of the most beautiful royal weddings of all time. Anyone who has ever seen "Cinderella" or "Sleeping Beauty," or really any Disney film knows that a royal wedding has several key elements: magic, beautiful ball gowns and a hot prince. We know that Kate and William's wedding will have at least two of those things.
What's your favorite cinematic royal wedding?
