If you were worried that the news of ex-husband Nick Lachey's recent engagement would send Jessica Simpson right off the deep end, you'll be glad to hear that the Texan bombshell won't have so much as a moment to dwell on it...
Because she'll be too busy planning her own wedding.
Jessica had reacted graciously to the news of her former flame getting hitched, but she's not one to be outdone, either—as evidenced by yesterday's announcement that she's engaged to NFL player Eric Johnson, just five months after the two began dating last May. And though she wouldn't go so far as to call Eric "the one" in a recent interview, her description of their relationship as "just normal" might have been the first hint of a lifelong commitment to come; after the harsh spotlight of "Newlyweds," high-profile heartbreak at the hands of Tony Romo and a relationship with the douchey John Mayer (who publicly described Jessica as "sexual napalm"—classy!), "normal" sounds kind of nice.
There's no word yet on when or where Jessica and Eric will tie the knot, and between their busy schedules and still-newish dating status, we might be in for a very long engagement. But those hoping to catch a public glimpse of the happy couple—and the big, honking ring he proposed with—can see them next week in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, where Eric and his family will join event headliner Jessica on her float.
So, Jessica's quickie engagement: Is it true love, or a race to beat Nick to the altar?
