It's been a long time since Natalie Portman starred in a romantic comedy, and it's been almost as long since Ashton Kutcher starred in a romantic comedy that we liked. So needless to say, we were thrilled by the trailer for "No Strings Attached," a rom-com in which the two play friends engaged in a casual fling with—you guessed it—no strings attached. But, as you also might suspect, it develops into something more like love.
Plus, any movie that has Mindy Kaling in the opening seconds automatically wins our stamp of approval.
Surprisingly enough, Natalie and Ashton have really great chemistry. We totally bought the two as lifelong friends who get wrapped up in a relationship that slowly spins out of their control. The trailer makes it pretty obvious that jealousy and love eventually get in the way, but considering this is the first of many friends-with-benefits projects headed our way, it will be interesting if this approach is more "realistic" than some of the other films'.
For all of you film buffs out there, here are a couple more reasons to be excited for the flick. "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman is helming the flick, and some of our faves, like Olivia Thirlby, Greta Gerwig, Lake Bell, Kevin Kline, and even Cary Elwes, costar.
But, to be perfectly honest, the film totally sold us with its last line, after Natalie starts flipping out at Ashton when he asks her out on a date. "You can't fight me, you're miniature," he shouts back at her while she's punching at him. "You fight like a hamster." Umm, yes. We're in for this movie, no strings attached.
Did you find this movie trailer as endearing as we did?
