Well, it doesn't look like Katy Perry will be kissing anymore girls. The "Teenage Dream" singer and her boyfriend of more than a year, salty British comedian Russell Brand, were married Saturday evening in a ceremony in India.
"Russell Brand and Katy Perry are overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Brand on Saturday, October 23," the couple said in a statement sent to MTV News. "The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples' closest family and friends, was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson Family [Katy's maiden name]. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India."
The newlyweds took to their respective Twitters on Sunday to announce the news personally, writing, "WE DID!" accompanied by a Twitpic of what appears to be Silly Bandz in the shape of their names. (Fun wedding favors, perhaps?)
According to E! Online, the couple married at the Ranthambore Sanctuary near where Russell proposed to Katy on New Year's Eve. (Awwww!) The two held a lavish wedding weekend with a bazaar set up on Thursday so guests could "pick out saris, jewelry and other Indian objects to set the tone for the impending nuptials." On Friday, the pair took part in a traditional mehndi ceremony where Katy's hands, arms and feet were decorated with henna.
For the big day, People reports elephants were brought in for the bridal processional and traditional Indian instruments, including the sitar, the santoor, the tabla and kettle drums, could be heard playing from outside the walls of the resort.
We couldn't be happier for the quirky couple and wish them years of wedded bliss!
