Last night's 2010 Emmy Awards brought out some of our favorite stars like "Glee" gal Lea Michele and "Vampire Diaries'" Nina Dobrev, and all (OK, most!), were definitely dressed to impress. Black and navy were undoubtedly the colors of choice, but they weren't all that caught our eye. There were hints of sparkly nude gowns and some bold colors too. Of course, not everyone pulled off a winning look. Find out which stars made a mark and which ones fizzled.
No one rocked navy on the red carpet like Lea. The "Glee" star (who is no stranger to our best-dressed lists) was the epitome of elegance in a strapless Oscar De La Renta gown with a ruffled bottom. Of course, it takes more than a great dress to impress, and Lea seemed to totally understand that seeing as her accessories left us swooning. P.S. Anyone else think she resembled Penelope Cruz (another best-dressed veteran) last night?
Julia Louis-Dreyfus stepped out in black (the other color of the evening), wearing a sleeveless Narciso Rodriguez gown. Her dress, which featured a sheer panel right above the waistline, was total class. Oh, and we loved that she added a pop of color with bright turquoise earrings.
As much as we loved Lea's look, when it comes to the night's best dressed lady, "Vampire Diaries" star Nina poses some stiff competition. Nina looked so, so glam in an one-shoulder, peach Zuhair Murad dress. Everything about the look, from the slit down the side of the gown, to the droplet earrings and the tight bun, was pure perfection to us.
Nina was joined on the red carpet by Claire Danes (who took home an award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries—go her!). Claire surprised us in a stunning Armani Prive gown. We're not usually a fan of sparkly gowns on the red carpet (it's easy to go wrong!), but Claire pulled off the look flawlessly.
Now, we told you there was some color on the carpet last night, and here it comes...starting off with the best. "Glee's" Naya Rivera totally impressed us in a bold teal gown, with a major slit running up the leg. Our only gripe? The hair. The bangs were uneven and the bun was way too high. In fact, the whole thing kind of reminded us of Snookie's poof, and even she has retired that look (now that's saying something!).
Another fave in color last night was Keri Russell, in a simple, pink gown and loose bun. We loved that her look was absolutely understated, and yet, still wonderfully put together...and for that, she's a fashion winner.
We're willing to give Sofia Vergara due credit for donning some serious color on the red carpet, and while we usually love anything yellow we definitely could have done without this sequined ensemble. Sofia herself called it her "mermaid" dress, which probably should have been the first indication that it was a bad choice.
Of course, Sofia's not the only one that went wrong in the color category. We're not sure why January Jones went for an awkwardly shaped so-blue-it-hurts-our-eyes dress on the red carpet, but we're definitely not fans.
Finally, we're looking at "Modern Family" star Ty Burrell's wife, Holly. Here's the thing Holls, we could have dealt with the strapless black and pink gown but it was the floral shoulder wrap that we could not ignore. Had she just left that piece at home, she might have spared herself a place in our worst-dressed category.
