Victoria Justice On Evading The 'Teenybop' Image: 'I Hate Sequins, Sparkles, And Pink'

Teen VogueBy Lauren Strupp

Who is Nickelodeons new it girl? Victoria Justice, that's who. And in case you've been living under a box, Victoria is a 17-year-old rising star with her own show, "Victorious," — a series that competes directly with (and often wins in the ratings against) the more well known Disney Channel shows like "Hannah Montana" and "Wizards of Waverly Place."

In the September issue of Teen Vogue, the plucky Florida native is on the cover looking chic and inside revealed that there's "so much more people don't know about me yet."

She admits to loving Kristen Stewart, thinking Robert Pattinson is hot and adoring Sandra Bullock for being a classy lady. As for herself, she claimed, "I used to be such a nerd." If you can imagine that!

While shes content with her Nickelodeon show, she is itching to try films and do "something cool where I can show that I can act." But, in the mean time shes focusing on her music career and working on her new solo album.

The most interesting part of the interview, though, is how authentic Victoria is. She doesn't want people to think of her as something she isn't — in fact, she described her personal style as

boyish." "I hate sequins, sparkles, and pink," she said. And after having some tough experiences with some entertainment biz head honchos telling her how to present herself ("executives who would say, 'Stand up straight, smile, do this and that'"), she decided that she was done being given rules. "No matter what anyone tells me, I'm just going to be true to myself," she said of her personal mantra. "I know it sounds cheesy, but its the struggle you have to go through."

We expect Victoria to have staying power and see no reason why she wont one day work with some of her favorites, including Zooey Deschanel, Amanda Seyfried, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and even Danny DeVito!

And though she says I am so far from perfect, we think shes doing pretty well for herself!

What do you think of Victoria's Teen Vogue cover? Do you find her as pleasant and bubbly as we do?
