Over the past ten years — before the name Robert Pattinson made girls everywhere swoon, before there was ever a team Edward or team Jacob, before the entire vampire craze took wind — we fell in love with three young wizards as they ventured off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and found themselves in a battle against he who shall not be named…
One name worth mentioning however is Hermione Granger, muggle-born Gryffindor student and best friend to Harry Potter and Ron Weasley in J.K. Rowling’s magical "Harry Potter" series. Hermione, played by the elegant Emma Watson, won hearts over with her quick wit, encyclopedic knowledge and charming habit of telling people what to do. “If I’m honest, I was her,” Emma tells Vanity Fair about her counter-part, “I was very keen. I was super-eager to please and be good. And I was always kind of bossy.”
Last year, the England native found herself to be the highest-paid actress in Hollywood, being apart of a $5.4 billion movie franchise, but that wasn’t the only thing Emma had going on. If that wasn’t enough, the talented actress took on the real life role of Ivy League student at Brown University and now that her freshman year is coming to an end, what better way to celebrate than to take a look back at the beginning.
From first week impressions to attending frat parties to choosing classes, Emma tells it all to Vanity Fair but fear not fellow crushers, for we have the major details right here!
“It was just awful,” Emma recalled thinking at first, “I was like, I must be mad. Why am I doing this?” (Don’t worry girlfriend, from one college student to another, we all — at one point or another — feel the same way.) And magical spells are no longer the only thing this young starlet can add to her list of mixes, not after attending her first frat party, “I felt like I’d walked into an American teen movie. I picked up the red cups. I was like, wow, they really do drink from these.” (Yeah Emma, we do.) It should come as no surprise here that one of the classes the fresh student settled into was, in fact, acting, “I think actually I’m the worst person in the class,” Emma revealed, however we're not so sure we'll take her word on that one.
So after spending most of her life growing up in front of our very own eyes on the big screen, Emma embarked on her own journey to find out what it was like to be on the other side ... that is a normal teenage girl. “I was scared before I came to Brown — that I wasn’t going to be allowed to have both [a career and a normal life]. People would think that I didn’t deserve to have both. [I was afraid they’d think], you’re famous. You’re given free handbags. Why should you deserve to be normal?”
