We’ve covered quite a few histories of young starlets here on Hollywood Crush, from Kristen Stewart to Vanessa Hudgens to Miley Cyrus. And while all have done some serious transforming since their careers first began, none have changed more — both inside and out — than Heidi Montag.
Despite the fact the other young actresses have grown up in the spotlight, Heidi’s career has literally been filmed by a camera since she was 19-years-old, allowing the entire United States (or at least MTV’s “The Hills” fans) to judge her every action and statement. Now, with the sixth and final season of “The Hills” drawing ever nearer (it premieres tonight!), we’ve decided to take a look back at Heidi from then until now.
Heidi was just a small-town Colorado girl when she moved to San Francisco in 2004 to attend the Academy of Art University. There she was lucky enough to meet Lauren Conrad, who had just moved north from southern Cali after the first season of “Laguna Beach.” She told the New York Times in 2006, “Everyone in the room was kind of gothy, and we were the two blond girls in the room scared out of our minds. I ran up to her and said, ’Will you please talk to me.'”
They almost instantly hit it off, and started planning a move to L.A. after discovering San Fran wasn’t for them. It was about that time that MTV started developing a spin-off of “Laguna Beach” called “The Hills,” which would feature Lauren as its leading lady. Heidi and Lauren moved in together in LA and started attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in fall 2005, but Heidi soon dropped out. The first season of “The Hills” hit airwaves on May 31, 2006.
But even without a degree, Heidi managed to be promoted to event planner at Bolthouse Productions, before being fired and rehired, all in a two year period. Heidi was featured in every episode of the first two seasons of “The Hills,” and the second season focused heavily on her relationship with fellow cast member Spencer Pratt and the way it affected her relationships with Lauren and friends. The season two finale showed Heidi moving out of her and Lauren’s apartment, and moving in with Spencer.
During early 2007, Heidi decided to pursue a career in the music industry. She has debuted and leaked a number of singles over the past three years, but none have seen a modicum of success. Heidi released her debut album, Superficial, on January 11, 2010. It sold less than 1,000 copies on its first day, and barely over 1,000 copies in total in the first week. Just the week before she had told Entertainment Weekly that she spent $2 million — “every dollar I have” — into the album, and that “it’s cost as much or more than a Britney Spears album because I wanted it to be that quality… The songs will make an impact in pop history.”
Though her mostly off-again feud with Lauren Conrad kept her in the headlines, Heidi also became the subject of some tabloid heat when she announced she had her breasts, nose and lips enhanced in April 2007. Only a month later, Heidi and Spencer announced their engagement, though they broke it off during the third season finale of “The Hills” in December 2007. Nothing is permanent in Hollywood, though, and the two were sort-of married on November 20, 2008, but tied the knot officially (on the show) on April 25, 2009.
Speidi had a short-lived stint on the reality show “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” in April 2009 but left because they felt they had been “tortured.” They also had made a guest appearance as themselves on “How I Met Your Mother” in January 2009, and Heidi will have a cameo role in Adam Sandler’s “Just Go With It.”
On November 20, 2009, Heidi went under 10 plastic surgery procedures to become “the best me.” The surgeries included a breast augmentation, liposuction and more facial reconstructive surgery. Though she first told People she was “beyond obsessed” with being under the knife, she later retracted the comment. Her “Hills” costar Kristin Cavallari told MTV News, “she seems very happy, which is, ultimately, the most important thing. And she looks good.”
“The Hills: Final Season” premieres Tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by “The City” at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
