Nicole Scherzinger is a pretty lucky woman in music and television right now. While you might not recognize her name immediately, you will definitely recognize her face as the lead singer of Pussycat Dolls and a contestant on this season of “Dancing with the Stars.” The 31-year-old singer/songwriter has made her way to popularity in the music scene with the help of now two reality TV shows.

Born in Honolulu to a Filipino father and a Russian/Hawaiian mother, Nicole was interested in music and performance arts from a young age. She majored in acting and musical theater at Wright State University in Ohio, and starred in their stage productions of “Chicago” and “Show Boat.”
In 2001, Nicole was one of the five final contestants on the WB’s response to “Making the Band” called “Popstars.” They formed a band called Eden’s Crush, which went on to have a couple of semi-successful singles and toured with ’N Sync and Jessica Simpson. However, the record company folded and the band disbanded shortly after.
But Nicole wasn’t long without a group, and in May 2003 she joined as the lead singer of Pussycat Dolls in their transformation from burlesque troupe to pop girl group. Nicole’s run with Pussycat Dolls has been much more successful, and their first album Doll Domination came out in 2008 and, though it was successful, did not perform as well as PCD.
Nicole has had a solo album called Her Name is Nicole, which has been in production limbo since 2007. Though it has not yet been released, she has gone on to also have a successful solo career and has performed alongside artists like Will Smith, P. Diddy, Slash and Sting, and has upcoming collaborations planned with Lady Gaga, Will.i.am and Timbaland.
On March 1, 2010, it was announced that Nicole would be a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars” alongside Pamela Anderson, Kate Gosselin and Buzz Aldrin. Thanks to her musical theater background, Nicole has continually scored highest in the competition.
