Ashley Tisdale And Aly Michalka Set To Play Cheerleaders In New CW Series, 'Hellcats'

So, not to steal Ashley Tisdale's thunder or anything but lately she's been tweeting about some "amazing news," and we've finally figured out what it is.

Ashley may have made her mark at Disney, but it looks like she's all set to make some major moves to The CW, where she'll be starring in the upcoming show "Hellcats," according to The Hollywood Reporter. We think that qualifies as "amazing," don't you?!

The series is about a college student, Marti ("Bandslam" star Aly Michalka) who joins the school's competitive cheerleading team to make ends meet, and Ashley is slated to play the squad's prepped-out captain. Not surprisingly, Marti and Ashley's character don't exactly hit it off.

"I'm so excited for this project," Ashley write on her blog today. "I love the cast I'm working with and am so thrilled with the character I get to play."

We're excited to see Ashley in this role especially because, at least judging from her resume, it seems like a perfect fit. After all, she's got the whole snotty girl thing down (remember her role in "High School Musical"?) and we know she can dance. Oh, and perhaps most importantly, she also lent her voice to the soundtrack for the fourth movie in the cheertastic "Bring It On" franchise: "In It To Win It."

Anyway, congrats to Ash and Aly on the new show — let the cheer wars begin!
