Emma Watson’s Eco-Clothing Line For UK’s People Tree Premieres This Week!

Emma Watson is one of the hottest young fashionistas around, so it’s no surprise that the actress-turned-ivy-leaguer is collaborating with UK’s People Tree fashion brand to create a charity line of clothing (and model them in the company’s catalog!). Acting as creative director of the project, Emma’s line for People Tree will start shipping to the US this week.

“I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to help alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with,” she said in a statement.

The collection was launched on February 1 and features 26 womens styles and 15 mens styles including jersey dresses, shorts, cotton t-shirts and other knitwear. The creation process was supervised by Emma and People Tree CEO Safia Minney and the in-house design team. There will be eight more styles that will be added later the season, People Tree said.

People Tree is a Fair Trade fashion line whose focus is to bring global awareness to fair trade practices. Eighty percent of the collection uses 100 percent organic, fair trade certified cotton coming from disadvantaged communities in Bangladesh and Nepal. The royalties made from the collection will be donated to the People Tree Foundation, an independent charity working with People Tree.

“I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion,” said Emma. “[They] want to make good choices but there arent many options out there. It has been the most incredible gap year project.
