SAG Awards Fashion: Lea Michele, Anna Kendrick, Diane Kruger & More Among The Best Dressed

By Nuzhat Naoreen

These last few weeks have been pretty award show heavy. First, we had the People’s Choice Awards, then the Golden Globes and now, most recently the Screen Actors Guild awards. Not that we’re complaining of course! But we can totally understand if you’ve got award show fatigue. That’s why we’re here — to help you skip through all the boring stuff (aka the speeches) and get to the stuff you really want to know, like who looked good on the red carpet! So, without further delay, here’s our list of the SAG’s top six best dressed ladies. Check it out and let us know if you agree.

Lea Michele, you’ve done your “Glee” fans proud! Lea looked absolutely stunning at the SAG awards red carpet in an eye-catching green Catherine Malandrino gown, with ruffled sleeves and ruched waist. We loved the color of the dress, which totally complemented her dark hair, and the fact that Lea didn’t go overboard (as so many stars do), on the accessories. In fact, we were this close to giving Lea top honors as the night’s best dressed starlet…but then we caught sight of Diane Kruger. The “Inglorious Bastards” star didn’t exactly impress us with her bubblegum pink gown at the Globes last week, but she fully redeemed herself at the SAGs. Diane stole the spotlight in a marigold ensemble by Jason Wu, which totally evoked old Hollywood. Kudos to both ladies for choosing off beat colors!

Marion Cotillard is quickly becoming one of our favorite fashionistas. The “Nine” actress, who received an honorable best dressed mention for her trendy dark green Globes gown, went short, white and glam for the SAGs. Her one-shoulder Elie Saab haute couture dress, detailed with feathers toward the bottom, was nothing less than a work of art. While we’d love to say we loved the look from head to toe, we’ve got to admit, we weren’t fans of the shoes. The heavy, white heels just didn’t do justice to the dress. In any case, we’re willing to overlook the mistake simply because the outfit was so phenomenal.

Much like Marion, Anna Kendrick’s also a red carpet hit as of late. Anna, who made the cut on our Globes best dressed list, impressed us once again at the SAG Awards. The “Up in the Air” starlet wore a striking purple strapless ensemble by Alberta Ferretti that we simply adored.

Kyra Segdwick may play a tough cop on “The Closer,” but she certainly didn’t look the part Saturday night in a strapless, white Vera Wang gown. The dress was made even more fabulous thanks to a grey brooch against her waist. As for her hair and makeup? Absolutely lovely. Of course, she wasn’t the only one to impress us. Christina Applegate also hit all the right notes at the SAGs in a light blue Roberto Cavalli gown, paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewlery.

Ok, Kate Hudson, we get it. You have an awesome back. So, awesome, in fact, that you decided to show it all off in a white backless gown by Emilio Pucci, and really, we can’t blame you. From the front, the gown wasn’t all that impressive (we would have liked it better with a scoop neck), but your back totally saved it, and for that, we applaud you. Another one of our red carpet faves, was “Dexter”star Julie Benz, who wore a cascading deep purple gown. We’ve got to admit, at first glance, Julie’s dress felt a little bit like a toned down version of “Avatar’s” Zoe Saldana’s
Golden Globe’s gown, but we still thought Julie looked great.

Last but not least (and we know you’ve been waiting for this one), we have Mariah Carey. Now, we don’t know if it’s because Mariah read our criticism of her Globes gown, and frankly we don’t care. What’s important here, is that the pop diva has finally picked up on the point that often, less is more. Her red gown was simple and classy, but most importantly, it was covered up in all the right places. So kudos to you Mariah, you’ve made us proud. Here’s hoping you keep it up!

We already thought Betty White was the cutest person ever. But, we fell just a little more in love with her when she showed up to the SAGs in an elegant teal long-sleeved gown. Oh, and in case you missed it, Betty was there to accept her much-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award. So, a huge congrats to her!
