Antwon Tanner, who plays Skills on "One Tree Hill," has been sentenced to spend three months in prison for dealing in stolen Social Security numbers. A Brooklyn judge ordered Tanner to report for jail time April 30.
Tanner will additionally serve five months in home detention after he's released from his stint in jail. The actor admitted to selling more than a dozen Social Security numbers for $10,000 to an undercover agent. He has since said the incident was "an embarrassment" to his family and fans, the Associated Press reports.
His lawyer, Gregory Watts, has blamed Tanner's decision to sell the Social Secrity numbers on "stupidity," adding that he "suffered financial reversals and lost a $1-million house in California to foreclosure."
Tanner was arraigned back in April 2009 after pleading not guilty to a two-count indictment which alleged that Tanner, as well as others, "engaged in the fraudulent scheme between December 2005 and July 2008." The actor had no prior criminal record.
"One Tree Hill" is set to return on Monday, January 17. There has been no word on what Antwon's jail time will mean for the show, but at the mid-season's end, his character and Mouth (played by Lee Norris) moved to California.
