Happy Birthday Weekend To 'Vampire Diaries' Star Nina Dobrev!

There is already plenty of romantic drama from the likes of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) in the "Twilight" and "True Blood" vampire franchises, but they've luckily made room for another competing female lead — Nina Dobrev, the star of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries."

Nina, who turns 21 years old on Saturday, already has a significant resume when it comes to television and film fare, despite being very early in her acting career. From 2006 through 2009, Nina starred as Mia Jones in "Degrassi: The Next Generation" before landing the role that she's most commonly known for now — Elena Gilbert, the young student at the center of a romantic conflict between brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) on "The Vampire Diaries."

While it's not quite the ratings powerhouse that "True Blood" is nor is it quite the household name that the "Twilight" series has become, "The Vampire Diaries" is nonetheless providing quality television entertainment that's hooking viewers week in and out. A large portion of that success has to do with Nina's excellent portrayal of Elena and her on-screen chemistry with her costars, particularly Paul and Ian.

It's still early to know exactly what "The Vampire Diaries" will bring to its viewers (unless you've already read the novel series, and in that case, no spoilers!) but judging by the work that Nina and her co-stars have accomplished thus far, it's certainly going to be a fun ride.

Just as everyone has an opinion, a favorite meal and a nose — albeit a fake one at times — so too does everyone have a birthday... even celebrities. Here at Birthday Bash, it's our mission to salute the Hollywood heroes that are celebrating their special day this week. You can wish Nina a happy birthday in the comments section below!
