New Year’s Eve Kisses On TV And In Film: Which Were The Juiciest?

New Year’s Eve brings so much to look forward to, from those oh-so-decorative glasses to acknowledging your New Year’s resolution doesn’t start just quite yet. But, let’s face it, nothing trumps a perfect New Year’s kiss at midnight. So while you plan on you who’ll pucker up with for January 1, 2010 we decided to take a look back at who had the best NYE smooches on the big and small screen.

Kim Cattrall and Jason Lewis in “Sex and the City: The Movie”

It wasn’t the happiest of New Year’s Eves’ for the entire “SATC” gang (Carrie was still heartbroken over Big, Miranda and Steve still weren’t back together), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Smith (Jason Lewis) spent a romantic and low-key NYE together. Adorned in matching sparkly robes and accompanied by their, er, eager pup, the two exchange gifts and kisses set to Mairi Campbell & Dave Francis’ beautiful take on “Auld Lang Syne.”

Kate Hudson and Casey Affleck in “200 Cigarettes”

Cindy (Kate Hudson) was having the New Year’s Eve from hell (her date is a dud, she rips her dress, falls in dog poo, the list goes on…) until she meets her unlikely match in punk rocker Tom (Casey Affleck). When the two lovelorn New Yorkers meet at a raging New Year’s Eve party they ring in 1981 with a sweet and sincere kiss under the Brooklyn Bridge.

Matt LeBlanc and Elle MacPherson in “Friends”

Poor, hapless Joey (Matt LeBlanc) spent weeks pining after his hot , new (sorry, Chandler) dancer roommate Janine (Elle MacPherson). So, when the two land a spot on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” he thinks it will be the perfect time to plant one on her. Of course, the two don’t gat paired up (not that any of that would spoil Monica and Ross’ dance number) and Joey doesn’t get the faux NYE kiss he was hoping for. It’s not until he and Janine get back to their apartment do they countdown to their very own first sexy NYE smooch.

Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in “Bridget Jones’s Diary”

So this isn’t your typical NYE snog (seeing as it wasn’t exactly a midnight smooch, not to mention our heroine was in her underwear), but when Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) and Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) finally kiss in the snow we know she has found that nice, sensible boyfriend she swore she’d find that year. Granted, this couple didn’t have the best previous New Year’s celebration together (he wore a reindeer jumper AND insulted Bridget) all was forgiven when Mark buys her a brand new diary for a brand new year and plants a perfect kiss on Bridget.

Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal in “When Harry Met Sally”

Of course, none of these moments can hold a candle to the all-time greatest New Years Eve kiss of will-they-or-won’t-they couple Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan). When Harry declares to Sally on December 31st, “And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible,” women the world over looked at their male friends in a whole new light.
