Over the weekend, news splashed everywhere that super-couple Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon had indeed split. A source told People magazine that the couple had supposedly split, but no further details were given. Then reps for both Jake and Reese denied the breakup, saying that the rumors were “not true” and "they are still together."
Rumors of a romance started to flutter in late 2007 after they costarred in the movie "Rendition." They were officially deemed a couple by the summer of 2008. Last fall, Reese told Vogue, “He's very supportive. Suffice it to say, I'm very happy in life, and I'm very lucky to have a lot of rally supportive people around me who care very much for me, and, you know, that's all you can hope for in life. I am very blessed in that way."
And, apparently she still feels that way. It makes sense that this rumor would be deemed false because as recently as last month the actress gushed about their time off together. "We spend the weekends outside L.A, in Ojai, where I have a farmhouse," she told InStyle. "We have chickens and we grow cucumbers and tomatoes. I love it. It reminds me of where I grew up in Tennessee."
This story comes in the wake of the the release of Jake's next film, “Brothers” (out this Friday), about a marine (Tobey Maguire) who goes missing overseas. His brother (Jake) consoles his sister-in-law (Natalie Portman) and family, eventually starting a romance. Things go haywire when the marine returns home.
