The release of the new Vanessa-Hudgens-starring flick "Beastly" is more than eight months away, but we learned from Summit Entertainment that its never too early to start advertising your sure-to-be-a-teen-hit. This week, the 21 second (actually, more like 16 second!) teaser trailer hit the Internet, but we're not so sure how we feel about it yet.
"This is my story," Alex Pettyfer says in his voiceover, "and this is my curse. Who am I? I'm you. Your ugliness, inside out."
Throw in a line of dialogue from Vanessa ("I always knew there was something more to him") and a man shouting out "Who are you?" (hence the answer in Alex's voiceover), as well as the transformation of Alex's Kyle Kingston from man to beast, and you've got the entire teaser.
If you hadn't known ahead of time — and if the title wasn't enough of a giveaway — there is nothing in the teaser that really implies that this in a retelling of "Beauty and the Beast." In fact, the teaser doesn't give away much of anything, and its short length gives us the feel of an ad for a CW TV show instead of a feature film.
From what we could tell, however, the film looks visually pleasing. Alex Pettyfer is more than nice to look at, and we like the effect of him transforming into "the beast." But hopefully CBS Films will give us a little more very soon so we can decide whether this is something we are dying to see, or something we can catch on DVD. And by something more, we mean we want to see a shot of Neal Patrick Harris.
What did you think of the teaser trailer for "Beastly"?
