Hey "Vampire Diaries" casting department, enough with all the hot dudes. Just kidding! There's no such thing. But I AM totally ready for some foxy ladies to come in and stir things up. That's why I was psyched when I read that Gina Torres (of "Angel" and "Firefly" fame ... ah, so Joss Whedon must love her) is set to visit Mystic Falls next week.
According to Fancast.com, Gina will play Bree, a "'past' associate of Damon's." She also happens to be "a bit of a witch," and the article speculates that she might be able to help Damon access the tomb his love Katherine is trapped inside. Um, AWESOME. Sounds like a fantastic character to stir things up. The "Vampire Diaries" storylines just keep gaining momentum — I don't think there's been a slow week yet.
Fans of the aforementioned Joss Whedon should be happy, as the longtime Whedonverse actress plays smart, powerful, ass-kicking women like no one else. Fans of smart, powerful, ass-kicking women should be happy too, because, well, duh.
"Vampire Diaries" co-creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson told E! yesterday that he's eyeing another powerful woman to join the cast for an episode or two: CMA Entertainer of the Year Taylor Swift. "I'm desperate to have [Taylor] come play a vampire," Kevin said. "Wouldn't she make an amazing Kirsten Dunst circa 'Interview With the Vampire' type? Oh my god, I cannot tell you how hard I'm trying to get her — I would kill to have her on the show!"
We know she can do comedy from her hysterical "Saturday Night Live" debut, so it would be great to see Taylor try her hand at drama (that one episode of "CSI" notwithstanding).
What do you think of Gina Torres' casting? How fantastic would it be if Kevin got his wish and Taylor guested on the show?
