Dakota Fanning Talks 'New Moon,' Fashion & Befriending Kristen Stewart In Teen Vogue: Cover Story

As if winning the coveted title of high school homecoming princess wasn't enough of an accomplishment for a 15-year-old girl, now Dakota Fanning can also boast getting the December cover of Teen Vogue. The former child star (who looks all grown up now), opened up to the magazine about starring in "New Moon" and the darker flick "Runaways," bonding with co-star Kristen Stewart in both films and transitioning into the role of an adult actress.

Dakota, who has been in the industry since she was 5 and worked with the likes of Denzel Washington and Tom Cruise, said she chose to join the cast of "New Moon," where she plays a member of the powerful Volturi clan, simply because it "sounded like fun." The added perk? She ended up becoming good friends with Kristen.

"We became really close," Dakota said. "Like we'd known each other for our whole lives. We talk all the time."

Good thing too since the two actresses will be spending a lot of time together on set. Besides starring in "New Moon," Kristen and Dakota are also worked on the "Runaways," a biopic on a group of destructive punk rockers slated for release next year.

The actress, who received a lot of flack the last time she starred in a movie with "adult" themes ("Houndogg" anyone?), said she didn't hesitate to take on "Runaways," which dabbles in drugs, sex and of course rock'n roll. “I’m going to get older,” she said. “And I want to act for the rest of my life—it’s what I love—so I have to move forward with my career. The choices that I make might not always please everyone, but I have to do what I feel is appropriate and right for the time.”

Of course, while her career might be taking a more serious turn, Dakota's still a teen (who just made varsity on her cheerleading team by the way!), and like most girls her age, she loved getting dolled up for Teen Vogue. For the shoot, the one-time Marc Jacobs model who doesn't have a stylist, rocked dresses by designers like Alexandar Wang and Gucci. She also fell in love with a pair of 6-inch-platforms that were on set, which is understandable considering she spent most of her summer in boots for "Runaways"!

What do you think of Dakota's cover? Are you as in love with that Gucci dress and Vera Wang necklace as we are?
