Welcome back to Dress Like A Movie Star Week here on Hollywood Crush. We're continuing to bring you Halloween costume ideas inspired by some of the most outrageous, colorful and downright awesome characters on the big screen in 2009. We know your wallets aren't exactly being filled by a money tree in your backyards these days, so we're going to try our darndest to keep these costume ideas easy to create and easy on your bank account! Let the trick and treating begin!
Unless you lived under a rock this summer, you'd know that the surprise hit "The Hangover" is the fourth highest grossing film of the year. No small thanks go to Zach Galifianakis' tubby Alan (pictured below in the middle of Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper), the brother of the bride who's more than a little out there.
Zach Galifianakis has already proved he's a babe in his own right (not really, but this Crusher might be massively crushing on the comedian), and his outfits — or lack thereof — are some of the easiest to recreate for your Halloween costume, mostly because they came from mall stores. Thank you, "Hangover" costume department!
To start off the Zach Galifianakis look — unless you already have the facial scruff of a lion — your best bet is to head over to HangoverBeard.com, a site dedicated solely to selling a fake beard for $20 (including shipping!) to make you look like Zach.
Then there's his shirt, which Urban Outfitters put back on their catalog after the success of the film. The Human Tree Tee runs at $28, and we suggest buying the shirt a size or two larger than your usual so you can fit a beach ball or some pillows on it to add a little roundness to your look.
If you want to channel the "I'm ready to party" Alan, we located the actual satchel he insists he carry around with him throughout the movie. The Vintage Bag in Vintage Tribe from Canadian retailer Roots, runs a bit pricey at around $123 US dollars, but if you're trying to get a less authentic look, we're sure any brown leather man purse will do. Throw on a pair of white jeans (check out this $40 pair from Gap), and you're ready to hit the slots.
But maybe you'd prefer to go for Alan's baby carrying-look, in which case we've got just the items for you. For this outfit, you need the aforementioned white jeans (any will do), and the key component: a front baby carrier and plastic baby doll. Babies 'R Us is selling Infantina Front 2 Back carrier for $32, so stick your little sister's plastic dolls in the front, start calling it Carlos, and you're all set.
Whichever look you decide to go for, make sure you take some tips from Zach's style of comedy. His awkward comments (even with his "Hangover" costars!) are just as important to pulling of Alan as any part of his clothing ensemble.
Check back with us tomorrow for our final installment of Dress Like A Movie Star Week (did you see yesterday's Halloween costume from another galaxy? Or our scary good tips on how to dress like Jane from "New Moon"? What about Monday's "Zombieland" badassery?) when we give a shopping trip you'll never forget.
