It was the rant heard 'round the world: Kanye West storming the MTV Video Music Awards stage to protest on behalf of Beyonce (who was nominated for her smash "Single Ladies") during country-pop star Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video. You didn't have to be in the audience at Radio City Music Hall to see the distressed look on Taylor's face when she realized what was going on, but when we caught up with the 19-year-old after the bizarre incident, she was (not surprisingly) super poised.
"It has been a crazy night, hasn't it?" she told MTV News exclusively backstage after the show. "I was up there and I was standing there and I saw Kanye up on the stage. I was really excited... and I kind of wasn't excited anymore."
Though her first VMA win was marred by Kanye's outburst, Taylor got her chance to finish her acceptance speech thanks to the the ever-lovely Beyonce, who gave up the mic during her own win for Best Video.
"You know, they told me to be ready just in case she might want to say something," Taylor explained. "It was just so wonderful and so incredibly classy of her and just gracious and wonderful to let me say something."
Following what will likely go down as one of the VMAs biggest WTF?!? moments, Kanye was ushered from the building. And in traditional Kanye fashion, the MC took to his blog to offer an exclamation mark-laden apology, that seemed to ring a bit untrue as he continued to sing Beyonce's praises.
"I'm sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom," he wrote. "I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would've said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she's in the bleachers! I'm in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!
"Beyoncé's video was the best of this decade!!!! I'm sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!! I'm sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I'm a fan of real pop culture!!! No disrespect but we watchin' the show at the crib right now cause ... well you know!!!! I'm still happy for Taylor!!!! Boooyaaawwww!!!! You are very very talented!!! I gave my awards to Outkast when they deserved it over me ... That's what it is!!!!!!! I'm not crazy y'all, i'm just real. Sorry for that!!! I really feel bad for Taylor and I'm sincerely sorry!!! Much respect!!!!!"
What did you think about last night's bizarro events? Do you think Kanye is truly sorry?
