'Eclipse' Casting News (Thursday Edition!): Catalina Sandino Moreno To Play Vamp Maria

Sure, the second “New Moon” trailer hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but there’s so much to look forward to in “Eclipse.” Edward’s back as a main player, there’s the tent scene, an epic battle between werewolves and vampires and, of course, a whole array of new actors. The newest to join the fray, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is Catalina Sandino Moreno, the Academy Award nominated actress from “Maria Full of Grace.”

Returning to the name that made her a star, 29-year-old Catalina will be playing Maria, the vampire who turned Jasper Hale ( Jackson Rathbone) into a vampire during the Civil War. With Maria and Jasper, the true horrors of how vampires used to behave is shown (yes, they’re far worse than James, Victoria and Laurent) and the background of vampire wars is shared.

Maria’s role in the novel version of “Eclipse” was limited to Jasper’s story of his creation, but there’s no saying how big or small her role in the film will be.

Most recently, Catalina was in "Che" parts one and two and the big screen adaptation of "Love In The Time Of Cholera." This will be the esteemed actress’s first role in a genre flick, and what better way to kick off a new side to her filmography than in what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest film franchises ever. Catalina, we at Hollywood Crush welcome you to “The Twilight Saga!"
