It’s true what they say about breaking up; it really is hard to do. What with the returning of personal effects, the erasing of phone numbers and the changing of Facebook statuses. But that stuff’s actually easy peasy compared to the kind of upheaval a “Twilight Saga” uncoupling causes. According to Kristen Stewart, parting ways with the world’s most dazzling vampire nearly killed her!
When we sat down to talk with the “New Moon” star (read our full interview with her and costar Taylor Lautner), she was frank about being intimidated by the second novel—largely because of the grandiose emotions she had to convey.
“It’s such a heightened version of reality,” Kristen said. “It’s like, people don’t just break up [in the ’Twilight’ films] — they break up and it literally kills you. It’s not like you just say, ’Oh, I’m really depressed and crying.’ Everything is supposed to be a fantasy version of that. So I always had a really hard time figuring out, ’Am I doing enough? Do I look like I’m going to die?’ ”
As we all know, Bella doesn’t die, thanks to the kindness and compassion (and motorcycle riding lessons) offered by her friendly, neighborhood wolf Jacob. “Only he can bring her out of that rut,” Kristen said of her character’s relationship with the shapeshifter. “Like, she literally is going to die; she’s going to stop eating and be done. And the only thing that brings her out of it is this lightness [Jacob] brings.”
Thank goodness for BFFs, cause a two-book “Twilight Saga” with Bella’s untimely death as the finale would have been a bit of a downer.
Are you excited to see Jacob bring Bella out of her funk in “New Moon”?
