The Rock Came To The Rescue Of His Puppy Namesake

The generous actor helped save a dying pup's life.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has a well-documented track record of being a bonafide hero for his canine pals. We all cheered and swooned when he saved one of his pups from drowning in a pool in September, and then we all sobbed when he shared the sad news that one of those pups died a few weeks later.

But Johnson’s latest bout of animal generosity may be his most heartwarming yet. On Monday (Nov. 23), actress Michelle Trachtenberg tweeted Johnson the link to a fundraising page for a sick pup named after him. The 4-month-old cockapoo was found abandoned at a shelter with wire wrapped around his mouth, and needed life-saving surgery for a heart defect.

Johnson responded in true big-hearted fashion, promising to help.

The actor then made good on his word by donating $1,500 to the dog’s page, giving a major boost to the Saving SPOT Shelter’s goal of raising $5,000. The shelter confirmed that the puppy now stands a good chance of surviving, thanks to Johnson and other donors’ contributions.

“Knowing that ‘The Rock’ has got Dwayne the puppy's back, we are confident he will be a fighter and make it through this,” the shelter wrote in an update to their page on Wednesday (Nov. 25).

“Lots of good people chipped in for the lil' guy,” Johnson wrote on Twitter that evening. “Plus the pup has the Coolest. Name. Ever.”
