Here’s What It’s Like To Be Gay, Disabled And Worthy Of Love

'When you're honest completely about who you are, life opens up to you in this new, exciting way.'

Ryan O'Connell is a self-described "professional feeler of emotions," but also so much more. He's the author of the book "I'm Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves." He's also a homosexual man living with cerebral palsy.

"I have two very root identities being gay and disabled. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone if you had a choice," O'Connell joked in video from BuzzFeed IRL, posted on Saturday, Nov. 21. He goes on to reveal that his sense of humor only came from a long and sometimes painful road towards self-acceptance.

"When you're honest completely about who you are, life opens up to you in this new, exciting way," O'Connell shared in the powerful clip. "All these opportunities are available to you that weren't before. You can actually fall in love because you don't hate yourself anymore." Once he started doing this, he was finally able to get into a healthy romantic relationship.

We should all try living (and loving) a little more like O'Connell. You know, once we wipe off all the tears streaming from our faces. Watch the emotional video below.
