You’d Never Guess Pharrell’s G-Star Raw Collection Is Made From Recycled Plastic

Not gonna lie, when we first heard that Pharrell was teaming up with G-Star Raw and Bionic Yarn on a denim collection made from recycled ocean plastics, we struggled a little to visualize the results. [Insert shrug emoji here.] But now we can safely say it sounds a lot crazier than it looks! G-Star just released the first look at the collection, which drops in September, and, TBH, you’d never guess the origins of the pieces. Ironically, the collection looks even more luxe than any other clothing collab Pharrell has done in recent memory.

Pharrell really flexes his eye for #FASHUN here. For men, denim jackets and shirts are cut progressively long—which might seem a little ~out there~ for anyone but Pharrell—but the elongated silhouette was trending at London’s menswear shows, so you’ll see more of it soon. There’s also some straightforward bomber jackets and jeans stamped with a pattern that plays off the recycling sign, T-shirts with ocean-themed graphics, and snapbacks.

For women, the selection is more or less the same, with denim jumpsuits replacing elongated jackets, plus a few “Happy Ocean” graphic pullovers.

We know Pharrell is something of a serial collaborator, but it’d be cool to see what else he could come up with, design-wise, made from recycled plastic. Here’s hoping this project lasts more than one season!
