From ‘Maid In Manhattan’ To ‘Teen Wolf': Tyler Posey’s Style Evolution

I’ve got some bad news if you were planning on, like, accomplishing anything before noon tomorrow. MTV is playing Maid in Manhattan, which happens to star a 10-year-old Tyler Posey. Yep, Tyler played Jennifer Lopez’s son long before he played Scott McCall on Teen Wolf and we’re celebrating his first major role. If you’re a big Tyler fan, be sure to watch the movie starting at 9:24 a.m. EST on MTV and, if you’re a really big fan, again at 5:30 p.m. EST. You can celebrate your love with fellow fans using #WeHeartTylerPosey.

We figured the best way to show why we at MTV Style heart Tyler Posey would be through his #FASHUN. The dude has come a long way since his Maid in Manhattan premiere outfit, so we need to talk about his style evolution. If you start reading now you’ll have ample time to brush up before the movie premieres on MTV tomorrow. Let’s start!

Check out li’l Tyler at the Maid in Manhattan premiere! While he hasn’t worn a turtleneck on a red carpet since then, he wears leather jackets, jeans, and sneakers all the time–he had his wardrobe staples established at a young age. Upping the #swaggy levels of this look is that hoop earring! We see you, hoop earring. We see you and we’ll never forget you.

Before Teen Wolf had even debuted, Tyler was on red carpets showing off his SoCal skater vibes. Crystal Reed is in a dress and heels, but Tyler is in jeans, a T-shirt, and a backwards baseball hat. Check out that ~flow~, BTW.

For the actual Teen Wolf premiere Tyler wore a suit, tie, and dress shoes. Take note: Seeing TyPo in a full suit is a rare occasion. Savor it.

For the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, Tyler went totally casual in jeans, a T-shirt, and sneakers.

Later that summer he stepped his fashion game up a notch, opting for suits with no ties. He even ditched the sneakers. A tie would’ve made these looks too buttoned-up–he hasn’t totally lost his Cali vibes.

See? At more casual events Tyler let his full-on skater style run free. He even let his flow return.

In 2012 he wore a full suit on multiple occasions. He cleans up nicely, don’t ya think? (I do.)

At the 2012 VMAs he swapped a dress shirt for a T-shirt, but kept the suit jacket and pants. He also traded black dress shoes for blue suede sneakers, which tone down the gray suit even further, since, in general, the VMAs are pretty casual. He also debuted a beard.

Later in 2012 he wore a double-breasted pinstripe suit. The suit, however, is not what most people noticed. I mean, dat ’stache!

At the 2013 Movie Awards he changed up his ~lewk~ entirely, wearing a chambray shirt instead of a T-shirt or dress shirt and trying boots instead of sneakers. He could’ve matched Dylan O’Brien with a bow tie, but maybe they’re saving that coordination for a future red carpet. We can hope.

At the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards Tyler reverted to his earlier laid-back style, though his pants were more fitted and his sneakers slightly less skateboard-appropriate.

Most recently, at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, Tyler went with a neutral palette that complemented his fiancée’s green dress. He wore jeans, a leather jacket, and sneakers–just like at the Maid in Manhattan premiere, OMG–and seems to have hit his red carpet stride. The outfit is appropriately casual, but fitted and perfectly layered.
