Here we were thinking Solange just grabs whatever is in her closet and heads out the door (you know, ***Flawless style). But in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she reveals there’s actually a method to her covetably fearless bright dressing. Sol says, “You can pull images of me from seven to 14 years ago and I was absolutely nuts. I have always been drawn to interesting pieces and colors, but I didn’t quite know how to limit myself and make those statement pieces work.” Solange doesn’t exactly give away her magic in the pages of the feature, but she does hint that reorganizing her closet helped her “develop a style that felt like [her].”

In Bazaar’s accompanying photo spread, Sol flaunts that very exuberantly colorful personal style we’ve come to love—an unexpected mix of flashy prints and pastels—across five gloriously bright pages. The singer, designer, and label head effortlessly pulls off a number of designer looks, from a rose print Moschino jumpsuit with Marni flatforms to a geometric Ralph Lauren dress with striped Manolo Blahniks and a big bow. My fave look, though, is Solange in Chanel’s standout color swatch dress (how meta is that?), styled with a pair of television test pattern sunglasses by Jeremy Scott for Linda Farrow.

On top of the extra-right wardrobe, the most eye-popping aspect of the whole shoot, IMHO, is Solange’s larger than life, angled bob. Between this spread and V Magazine’s hair-centric music issue covers, it feels like hair is having a major moment, at least for female musicians, this spring.
