Lena Dunham has been deep in photo shoots since the year began. First, she made her Vogue cover debut in February. Then she enlisted Shirley Kurata and Autumn de Wilde to capture the cover of her debut book, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s “Learned.” And now, she’s landed the cover of Glamour’s April issue.

If there’s one unifying vibe across all of the shoots, it’s that Lena Dunham is really good at channeling the '60s. Dunham went full-on mod for Glamour with her grown-out pixie cut swept to the side, a dramatic eye, and retro clothes courtesy of Rag & Bone, Narciso Rodriguez, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, and Celine.

But even more interesting, perhaps, is Dunham’s behind-the-scenes video where she shares what she REALLY thinks about doing shoots (while unpacking some of her past tweets). “The experience of doing a photo shoot is exciting because every girl likes to play dress-up, and it’s nerve-racking because lots of different people are looking at you and whispering to each other,” she says. “It’s a funny mix of feeling really proud that you’re there and really, ‘I don’t do things like this. I should be home.' I’m never going to totally have an unambiguous relationship to it. But it’s fun.”

Also in the vid? Some insight on Dunham's relationship with her hair. “I have real hair impatience," she divulges. "I cut my hair off really short about a year and a half ago. It was really liberating. I felt more like myself than I had before. Now, I’m growing it out a little, working with a fifth-grade schoolgirl look. But I’m sure I’ll go back to it because having short hair is delightful and makes you feel sort of like incognito in a really cool way.” Her fans will appreciate that even in the midst of all the, you know, glamour, Dunham keeps it real.
