In case this whole clothing-and-accessories empire "thing" doesn't work out, Rebecca Minkoff clearly has a knack for soundtracking shows with stylish performers. Last year, Minkoff recruited Janelle Monae, who did menswear proud with a black-and-white, suspender-strapped look, to sing a few songs while the models walked. This year, the designer chose AlunaGeorge to rock her runway, and they did not disappoint—sound-wise OR sartorially.
With George Reid manning the production from behind the scenes, Aluna Francis took center stage for the British electronic duo, and her performance style mirrored some of the exact same aesthetics that Minkoff was sending down the catwalk. Overall, the collection gave a modern, feminine interpretation of classic menswear silhouettes, with slim-cut trousers and blouses getting paired with soft layers of chiffon, pastels, and jewel tones. Aluna wore a boxy, teal, tuxedo-striped shift dress and paired her mini with sparkly platform loafers.
