Most pop stars work hard to cultivate a style all their own. For Lady Gaga, it's wigs and over-the-top #ARTPOP. For Miley Cyrus, it's a platinum pixie cut and pantless leotards. And for tiny diva Ariana Grande, it's long waves, half-up/half-down, and flouncy A-line skirts. No matter the occasion, be it a performance, a magazine cover, or an Instagram selfie, Grande has pretty much worn her hair the same way since she started topping the charts last year. "So what?" you say. "Who cares?" Well, some people, apparently. Which is why the singer has finally decided to get something off her chest, er, scalp.

Due to overwhelming fan input, Grande just posted a manifesto of sorts on Instagram in defense of her signature hairstyle. According to Ariana, her hair woes stem from the beginning of her television career, when she starred as Cat on Nickelodeon's Victorious. "I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first 4 years of playing Cat," she wrote. "As one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair." If you've ever gone bottle blonde, Manic Panic pink, or even a little dip-dyed ombre, you can probably feel her pain.

"My real hair is back to brown," she continues, "and I wear extensions but I wear it in a pony tail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down." Well what about wigs, you wonder? If they're good enough for bald Britney Spears circa 2007, what's keeping you from #werqing a pink bob? "I tried wigs, they looked RIDICULOUS," she says. "Tried a weave because I am working on a new project and want to try some different looks and literally wanted to rip my scalp off." OK, fair enough. "So PLEASE gimme a break about the hair (or just don't look at me lol)," Grande goes on to plead. "IT'S JUST HAIR AFTER ALL." AMEN, sista. #LEAVEARIANASHAIRALONE
