Here are some things one might associate with the wild, wild American west: cowboys, lassos, saloons, Will Smith, 10-gallon hats, studded leather saddles, motorcycle jackets lined with mink, crocodile bombers, Angel Haze, etc. etc. Oh, oops! I wrote that wrong. What I meant to say was, “Here are some things designer Philipp Plein associates with the wild, wild west.” According to his recent runway show, that is.

With a neon-lit, multi-level saloon serving as the backdrop, Plein presented his “Noir Cowboy”-themed menswear collection in Milan on Sunday—complete with a cap gun fight, a mechanical bull, and real bucking broncos. But despite the live-action gunplay between shirtless male models (#yeehaw), the most surprising aspect of the show was an unannounced guest performance by rapper Angel Haze.

Up until the final moments of the show, Johnny Cash had provided the soundtrack for Plein’s rough and tumble collection. Then, right when you’d expect to see some tumbleweed roll across the runway or whatever, Angel Haze emerges from the shadows, decked out in Plein and spittin’ fire. Haze, who wore a backwards snap-back, black, leather chaps pants, an oversized feather-print tee, and a red-and-black flannel shirt tied around her waist, performed her biggest hit, “Werkin’ Girls,” to an awestruck crowd. (Sidebar: Ja Rule was part of that awestruck crowd. #hollaholla)

“I’ve been to shows in America, and they’re never production-wise anything like this,” Haze said after her performance. This isn’t the first time Plein’s recruited a female rapper for his provocative shows: Iggy Azalea kicked off Plein’s Milan womenswear presentation in September and then teased a possible campaign collaboration, which we’ve yet to see surface. Perhaps he’ll be adding Haze to his ads as well? We’ll keep you posted.
