‘The Carrie Diaries’ Fashion: What Carrie Wore

This week’s The Carrie Diaries had a lot going on. Like, a ton. Maggie accidentally joined the Army (don’t ask), Sebastian attempted to launch his own skateboard clothing company, and Walt and Bennett had to face the threat of AIDS for the first time. Carrie, as always, looked stylish and ready for Valentine’s Day (even though her boyfriend canceled their plans so he could go out with Tony Hawk). As usual, we got the wardrobe deets from the show’s costume designer, Eric Daman, so check ’em out below!

The episode opens with Carrie walking in Soho (does she go to school anymore, JW?) and ruminating on Valentine’s Day. Since it’s supposed to be February and therefore chilly out, Eric told us about finding the perfect V-Day coat: “Ever since Gossip Girl, I have developed a love/hate relationship with coats and having to design around them for outdoor scenes. Now, with The Carrie Diaries, I am again faced with the difficult task of making outerwear fab, cute, and Carrie-licious. Making this selection even harder is the oversized coat trend currently sweeping the fashion world!!! Finding a cute coat that fits Miss Bradshaw is nearly impossible! Luckily, I stumbled upon the children’s outerwear section at Saks and saw this beautiful Dolce & Gabbana coat! Perfection! High style and fit to a T.! Plus, kids’ designer clothes are like half as much as the adult versions!”

After Sebastian cancels their Valentine’s Day date, Carrie decides to go with Larissa, Walt, and Bennet to a club full of leather daddies. Sounds like a perfect Valentine’s Day to me, TBH. Eric told us that Carrie’s red peplum dress serves one purpose: to let Sebastian know what he was missing out on. He continued, “When I saw this cocktail dress from Lipsy, I knew it was the one! The daring double cut-out, plunging neckline is sexy, and the velvet flocked lace detail had a lingerie allure that I loved. The black net Commando stockings give Carrie a retro pin-up sex appeal that really seals the deal!”

The final scene features quick cuts of the major characters after Valentine’s Day, with Walt confronting Bennett, Maggie dating the man who signed her up for the Army, and Carrie and Sebastian spending the day together without Tony Hawk. Eric told us, “In the day-after scene, where Carrie and Sebastian make up, it was important that Carrie looked cute and cuddly and a bit vulnerable. The light-gray-and-red heart Oasis sweater conveys the sentiment wonderfully and the polka dot boyfriend jeans from Gap are in tune with Carrie’s mismatched style and great for a cuddle on the couch!”
