‘The Carrie Diaries’ Fashion: What Carrie Wore

Last night’s The Carrie Diaries featured a lot of Carrie and Sebastian and a lot of partying (two things that guarantee an interesting episode). As usual, we got the behind-the-scenes deets on Carrie’s wardrobe from the show’s costume designer, Eric Daman. Check out what he had to say about one of Carrie’s many coats and her party outfit!

Now that Sebastian lives in L.A., his relationship with Carrie is challenging, simply because they can’t manage to get in contact with one another. I will thank my lucky stars every day for cell phones (not that I don’t already, TBH). One of Carrie’s many attempts to reach him via pay phone comes at the beginning of the episode. Eric told us, “For the scene when Carrie is on a pay phone on the street, I knew it was all about the coat! I had to find something that really grabbed the viewers’ attention and was super cute! My sixth sense (kinda like my Spidey style sense), told me this coat from Kate Spade would be the one…except it was too big! But lucky me, my team tailor, Anastasya, is a fashion miracle worker and reworked the oversized overcoat into a sweet petite fashion treat. It was a scene-stealer and the neon pink (so ’80s!) trimmings really framed AnnaSophia Robb’s face for the closeup shot!”

After being MIA for a few episodes, Dorrit was back and better than ever (JK, she’s the best always). She decided to throw a house party when the Bradshaw patriarch was away, which got a little out of hand. Carrie had to interrupt hanging out with Sebastian (who rather casually decided to move back East, IMHO) in a pink negligee and throw on something a little more appropriate for dealing with Dorrit and her frandz. Eric said, “When reading the house party script it was denoted that Carrie throw on ’an ugly ’80s sweater,’ and I was like ’Really? Ugly? Carrie doesn’t really do ugly!’ And she has to wear it for most of the episode. Lucky for me, I came across this awesome Rag & Bone sweater dress one day at Saks. The geometric design was totally ’80s, and the color wasn’t too cute or girly, so it totally worked for the scene. Function AND fashion!” I wish one of the things balled up on my floor looked like that sweater. A girl can dream, right?
