If you're not familiar with the curtain skirt, that's probably because it only makes sense to wear one if you are a female pop star performing on a stage. Like, I'm pretty sure not even Miley Cyrus would wear one in public. As a matter of fact, I'd say the curtain skirt is definitely more of a costume piece than a functional garment, because IMHO, it isn't even an ~actual~ skirt—more like an unfinished peplum. The curtain skirt is usually worn with a bodysuit and can vary in length and coverage, as demonstrated by both Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea this weekend at Wild Jam in San Jose, California.
Ariana Grande took the stage in a bedazzled curtain skirt that had a pretty severe mullet. If seen from behind, you might actually be fooled into thinking that the multilayered, voluminous piece was a full-on skirt. But the joke's on you, 'cause the "curtains" open up to reveal a VERY sparkly bodysuit in front. SURPRISE! You just got #curtainskirted. Despite being a tad more revealing than we're using to seeing on Grande, the outfit as a whole is still cut in her favorite style with a sweetheart neckline on the bodice and an A-line bottom. It's just missing some fabric, that's all. Ariana, QT pie that she is, paired her outfit with her signature half-up/half-down 'do and pale-pink pumps.
Iggy Azalea, on the other hand, took a less-is-more approach to her Wild Jam curtain skirt. Wearing a two-piece ensemble with a high-neck, cut-out top, Iggy's costume was covered in a black paisley print. TBH, the skirt kind of looked like an afterthought to the rest of the outfit. It was almost like whoever made it ended up with some leftover fabric and thought, "People are doing this now, right?" Regardless, Iggy stays slaying it in this outfit thanks in part to a killer pair of silver, knee-high lace-up boots, and LEGS FOR DAYS.
So, Arianators and Azaleans: Who do YOU think wore their white curtain skirt best?
