Lady Gaga Sheds Sparkles For Her American Music Award Performance

Lady Gaga swapped her purple Versace gown for a sparkly ensemble during her AMA performance of “Do What U Want” with R.Kelly. As the Marilyn Monroe to R.Kelly’s JFK (yeah, R. Kelly played the president in this American-inspired performance because DUHHHH), Gaga began the performance in a sequined jacket, which she quickly removed to reveal a matching dress. Very ice skater chic: getting in the Winter Olympics mindset, eh, Gaga? ME TOO.

One outfit change, obviously, wasn’t enough for the queen of mid-performance costume changes (see: her 2013 VMA performance), so Gaga then stripped the skirt off to reveal a sequined leotard, which she spent the rest of her performance in, crawling and dancing on a desk with R.Kelly, and being hoisted in the air by her many backup dancers. Her platinum ’do, which had been butt-length on the red carpet, was cropped into a bob for the performance. Channeling Donatella Versace and Marilyn Monroe is a whole lotta blonde in one night, but if one woman can do it, it’s 100% Lady Gaga.

R.Kelly, meanwhile, was presidential (JK!) in leather jogging pants and a suit jacket with leather lapels. How many pairs of leather, drop-crotch pants do you think President Obama has? I’m gonna guess zero!

Gaga is totally right: IDK if we are ready for what the video for this song will entail, but, we also can’t wait, so hurry up please, Lady G!
