Sure, if there’s ONE thing about Kanye West’s “Bound 2” music video you’re talking about, it’s likely that eye-popping Kim Kardashian cameo. (ICYMI: girl is topless—NOT naked, she’s wearing jeans, y’all—and bouncing all over Ye’s motorcycle. #innuendo) But here at MTV Style, our collective mind is on a single track, and not even Ye trying to make “fetch” happen inserting his *achem* buxom fiancé into this music video can distract us from the fashion at hand. So, let’s talk about these layered plaids.

Forget everything you knew about layering. Kanye is taking the seasonal stand-by to the next level: PLAID ON PLAID. And not just that, short-sleeved plaid over long-sleeved plaid. *pauses for inevitable jaws dropping, minds exploding, etc.etc.* That’s right, folks, but before you go experimenting, there are some key elements to this steez that need to be understood. The cut of the short-sleeved layer is paramount to making this work—the arm of Kanye’s Fear of God LA shirt has an angled hem at the sleeve, making it more like a short-sleeved shirt that really wants to be a vest.

Also important is the overall color palette of the two plaids. Notice how Ye’s long-sleeved Ralph Lauren shirt also uses a lot of red but pulls in more yellows and blues? The plaids should be 100 percent complementary to ensure that it looks deliberate. Going full-on Southwest with a beaded necklace like Yeezy’s Visvim joint is totally optional, though.

When you master that, Kanye has also revealed this super-advanced expert level of layering: add a fur vest.

Intimidated by all the mixed prints and textures? Don’t be. But if you really can’t shake the fear, Kanye has also given the green light for vintage tie-dyed and ripped band tees (this one’s Iron Maiden). It’s the perfect edgy, rugged look for stationary motorcycle riding. We’d suggest adding a leather jacket and helmet if you plan to actually ride IRL, though.

Here’s a better view of the tie-dye which radiates from the center of his shirt. Ok fine, and Kim’s there, too.
